Erik Wennerström

Erik Wennerström (born August 25, 1962 in Västanfors ) is a Swedish lawyer and judge at the European Court of Human Rights .

Live and act

Wennerström studied law at Uppsala University , where he graduated in 1988 and subsequently worked as a lecturer. In 1991 he completed additional training as a diplomat at the Swedish Foreign Ministry. Between 1991 and 2000 Wennerström held various positions at the Swedish embassy in Switzerland, Malaysia and at the European Commission . In 2000 he returned to Sweden and became Director of the International Relations Department in the Swedish Ministry of Justice. In 2005 he moved to the Department of International Law Enforcement as Director within the ministry. In 2007 Wennerström received his PhD from Uppsala University. iur. PhD. In the same year he became Chief Legal Counsel for International Law at the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2012 he became Director General of the Swedish National Crime Prevention Council and subsequently held various positions in similar international institutions, such as the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights .

In January 2019 Wennerström was elected as the successor to Helena Jäderblom as representative of Sweden as a judge at the European Court of Human Rights . He took up his term of office, which is expected to last until 2028, on April 1, 2019.
