Erika Koch
Erika Koch (born October 11, 1933 in Altena ) is known far beyond Erkrath-Hochdahl for her many years of voluntary refugee aid .
life and work
After completing her training as a medical assistant, Erika Koch married the civil engineer Gerhard Koch, with whom she raised five children. Her sixth, mediated by a parish, was a Chinese boy who had escaped from Vietnam with his father since 1980 ( Cap Anamur ). Further contacts followed quickly with refugees from Vietnam and initially mainly from Ghana and Ethiopia who needed help - clothing and household items, language lessons and help with homework, visits to the authorities and visits to the doctor. Erkrath refugee aid has existed since 1986 , on whose behalf it draws up letters of complaint and petition and invites you to the tea room for refugees in the House of Churches every Thursday afternoon .
Honors
- Dozens of refugees from all over the world call her "my mother".
- In 1991 she received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon .
