Franz Pomper

Franz Pomper (born April 5, 1931 in Rotenturm an der Pinka ; † June 29, 2007 there ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). From 1982 to 1987 he was a member of the Burgenland Landtag and from 1987 to 1992 a member of the Federal Council .

Life

Pomper was born as the son of master tailor Johann Pomper and, after primary school in Rotenturm and Großwarasdorf, attended secondary school in Vienna and Stoob . He then completed two classes at the teacher training institute in Vienna and then switched to the vocational school, where he was an apprentice to his father from 1948. In 1952 he passed the journeyman's examination and from 1958 he was employed in the field service of an insurance company.

Pomper began his political career in 1957 as the local party leader of the SPÖ Rotenturm and was sent to the SPÖ district committee in 1958. He was elected to the local council in 1959 and took over the office of mayor of Rotenturm in 1962. He was also a leader in ASKÖ Burgenland, where he was a member of the Presidium from 1956, then Vice President and from 1983 President. In addition, from 1985 he was ASKÖ vice-president in the association's federal organization. In addition, Pomper was Vice President of the Burgenland Football Association and from 1975 to 1988 chairman of the Penalty and Registration Committee (STRUMA). He represented the SPÖ from October 29, 1982 to October 30, 1987 in the Burgenland Parliament and was sent to the Federal Council on November 19, 1987. He was a member of the body until August 31, 1982, from July 1, 1991 to December 31, 1991, the function of President of the Federal Council. In 1992 Pomper resigned from his position as local party chairman of the SPÖ Rotenturm and as district party chairman-deputy of the SPÖ Oberwart, he held his office as mayor until 2002. He was the longest serving mayor of Austria.
