Side swim
Side swimming is a swimming technique in which the body lies sideways in the water. The arm pull is done in the lateral trunk position with the arm on top, pivoting horizontally like a boat strap . The legs also perform a horizontal scissor stroke.
According to Cassius Dio , Caesar was a good swimmer who mastered the side swim (Cassius Dio 42.10; Plutarch Caesar 37). GutsMuths also describes a form of side swimming in his work Small textbook on swimming art for self-teaching in 1798 . The Englishman JH Thayers swam 91.44 meters (100 yards ) in 1: 02.50 minutes in the side swim in 1895 .
In the US Navy unit SEALs is Combat sidestroke taught, in which the swimmer in the water is less noticeable.
