Dietmar Wedenig

Dietmar Wedenig (born November 24, 1944 in Sillebrücke ) is a former Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and primary school director. From 1990 to 1994 he was a member of the Federal Council and from 1994 to 1997 a member of the Carinthian state parliament .

education and profession

After primary school, Wedenig attended a secondary school and subsequently graduated from the federal teacher training institute in Klagenfurt , where he also passed the Matura in 1965 . He did military service in 1966 and passed the teaching qualification test for elementary schools in 1968. As early as 1965 he entered the Carinthian school service and worked as a teacher at the elementary schools in Pischeldorf, Timenitz, Poggersdorf and St. Thomas. In 1977 he was appointed provisional headmaster, in 1979 he was appointed principal school director. In 1996 Wedenig was awarded the title of High School Councilor.

Politics and functions

Wedenig began his political career as a member of the parish council of St. Thomas , where he was a member between 1970 and 1973. After the incorporation of St. Thomas into Magdalensberg , Wedenig acted as vice mayor of the Magdalensberg community from 1973 to 1979, after which he continued to work as a member of the Magdalensberg community council. He represented the SPÖ-Carinthia between June 7, 1990 and April 18, 1994 in the Austrian Federal Council and was President of the Federal Council from January 1, 1992 to June 30, 1992. After leaving the Federal Council, he was a member of the Carinthian state parliament from 1994 to 1997. From 1990 onwards, Wedenig acted as district chairman of the SPÖ Klagenfurt-Land, as district chairman of the Austrian Socialist Teachers 'Association in the Klagenfurt-Land district and was a member of the federal management and the federal board of the Austrian Socialist Teachers' Association. In addition, he was parliamentary group spokesman for the Klagenfurt-Land district school council and chairman of the service committee for general compulsory schools at the Klagenfurt-Land district administration. Wedenig was also involved in the union and acted as a member of the Carinthian provincial section management of compulsory school teachers in the public service union (GÖD), where he was also a member of the extended provincial board of GÖD Carinthia.
