Erkka Petäjä (born February 13, 1964 in Turku ) is a former Finnish football player .

Life

Defender Petäjä started playing football for Turku PS (TPS) in his hometown of Turku . By 1984 he had played 86 league games for TPS. In 1985 he went to the Swedish club Östers IF , where he played 143 league games until 1991. This was followed by other short positions in Sweden at Helsingborgs IF and Malmö FF before he moved to Switzerland for Yverdon-Sport FC , for which he only appeared seven times. He then went back to Sweden to Husqvarna FF . In 1996 he finally returned to his hometown for two seasons and now played for FC Inter Turku . He never won a national title or trophy during his career.

For the Finnish national team, Petäjä played 84 international matches between 1983 and 1994. This makes him the Finnish international with the sixth most appearances (as of November 15, 2011).

Petäjä also competed in athletics and in 1984 set a personal 100 meter best time of 11.20 seconds. He belonged to the athletics club Turun Urheiluliitto .
