Architecture and building history

The foundation stone for the cathedral was laid in 1771 with the blessing of the Bishop of Tobolsk Warlaam. The construction was from Igumen of Church of the Dormition (Uspenskaya) convent dalmatovo passed, Adam Arkudinski. The construction of the cathedral was carried out in two stages: the main building was built towards the end of the 18th century and the bell tower was built between 1820 and 1821 .

The architectural ensemble of the cathedral, which consists of the main cathedral, the apses with two chapels and the belfry, which is no longer in existence, is classified as part of the Ukrainian Baroque with influences from Russian architecture.

In the first half of the 19th century, the bell tower was added to the west side of the cathedral. The carving of the icon wall was characterized by its great opulence.

In 1907 the Moscow artist VI Zwezdin painted the pictures inside the main dome.

From 1929 to 1970 the cathedral underwent major changes: the bell tower, portals, side entrances, fencing and the cathedral chapel were destroyed.
