Church of the Redeemer (Nuuk)
The Church of the Redeemer ( Grönl . Annaassisitta Oqaluffia , Danish. Vor Frelser kirke ) is the most famous church building in the Greenlandic capital Nuuk . The building is a landmark and is located in the colonial harbor, the oldest part of Nuuk. It was built in 1848 and on April 6, 1849 Carl Janssen ordained . The dome was replaced by the current tower in 1884. The building replaced a church of 1758. Since 1994, the red wooden church , the Protestant cathedral in the country.
The organ comes from Marcussen & Søn and was installed in 1970. Two brass candlesticks are a gift from the Church of Norway . Inside the church, a painting by Carl Rasmussen and a marble relief are worth mentioning. A little above the church is a statue of Hans Egede . There is a monument to Jonathan Petersen right in front of it .
