history

Funeral hall

Erlaa had to pay contributions to the neighboring community of Atzgersdorf for sharing the Atzgersdorfer cemetery . In 1864 Adolf von Bäuerle, the owner of Alterlaa Castle , made a plot of land available for the establishment of his own Erlaa cemetery, which was laid out between 1865 and 1867. The first burial took place on June 23, 1869. In 1892 the area of the cemetery was expanded. Before 1926, a small urn grove was created in the community building style.

In 1965 the Vienna City Council decided unanimously to close the Erlaaer Friedhof from 1985, this period was extended by ten years in 1975. In a referendum in March 1980, however, a majority of the voters spoke out against an abandonment and the decision of the municipal council was overturned.

Between 1993 and 1994 a new mortuary was built in front of the cemetery.
