The Atzgersdorfer Friedhof is a cemetery in the 23rd Viennese district of Liesing .
location and size
The cemetery is in the east of the Atzgersdorf district on the border with Erlaa . There is an allotment garden next to the cemetery . It extends over an area of 39282 m 2 and has 3283 grave sites.
history
The cemetery was originally around the parish church of Atzgersdorf . In the course of the Josephine reforms, the cemetery was moved to the square opposite the parsonage in 1780 (Endresstraße 1–3). In 1826 a new cemetery was laid out on an area west of today's southern line (Taglieberstrasse 1 to around 17).
This cemetery soon became too small. Therefore, today's cemetery was built in 1880, where the first burial took place on January 2nd, 1881. The cemetery at the Südbahn was closed in 1896. In 1927, the entrance area of the new cemetery was expanded into a mortuary, which was redesigned in 1964/1965 according to plans by Erich Boltenstern . Since 1973, a further renovation by the same architect has made it possible to hold cremation celebrations in the funeral hall.
In 1954 the freedom fighter memorial created by the sculptor Franz Pixner with the names of 24 victims of the Nazi regime was unveiled in the Atzgersdorf cemetery .
