Erlanger magazine loot

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Erlanger Magazinbeute (EMB) is a special type of booty that was developed by the Bavarian State Institute for Beekeeping in Erlangen (today: Fachzentrum Bienen, Bavarian State Institute for Viticulture and Horticulture , Veitshöchheim). In its beginnings it goes back to the hive developed by Enoch Zander in 1911/12 with the honeycomb "Zander". The EMB combines all parts that are necessary for beekeeping: bottom, three frames , feeding device and lid. The soil enables the beekeeper to control the varroa mite and carry out the appropriate treatment easily and without direct contact with the bees. The open grid floor is also very beneficial for the dry, healthy wintering of the bees, and the edge honeycombs are less moldy.

description

The box walls are made of 27 mm thick softwood (solid spruce, Weymouth pine is lighter). The lid is thermally insulated with 30 mm styrofoam . The floor grille is made of stainless steel because of the treatment of the bee colonies against the Varroa mite with various acids. Since the prey is usually outdoors, it needs an exterior painting, but not an apiary. A cover to protect against sun, rain and snow makes sense. The bees' brood chamber is located in the two lower frames. Each frame has space for nine frames measuring 20 × 40 cm. The honey room at the top is separated from the brood chamber by a barricade so that the queen and the drones cannot get into the honey room. For certain beekeeping measures (feeding, formation of offshoots, uniting colonies, anticipation of swarms through colony division) there is also a separating or scented grid that is impermeable to bees. If you use a bee escape for the honey harvest , the bees leave the honey room by themselves because they follow the scent of the queen. So you don't need to be turned away or blown away. The procedure also counteracts the risk of robbery when there is no costuming. However, there must not be any brood in the honey room, otherwise the bees will remain sitting on it and will not move down.

There are a number of additional devices for the EMB that make working with the bees easier. These are, for example, the feeder for bee-free feeding, the feeder for feeding and accommodating apidea frames from the mating boxes and the quadruple floor for queen rearing and cuttings. The entrance hole can be made smaller with a flying wedge to protect against robbery or mice and can be closed completely for hiking. The special feature of the EMB are the tilt fittings, which allow the two breeding chambers to be separated from each other for swarm control without lifting individual magazine parts.
