The Erlenbacher Hütte is an inn and Herderhütte (alpine hut) on the Erlenbach (about 1100  m above sea level ) in the Black Forest .

history

For centuries cattle have been kept on the Erlenbach by a pasture community over the summer. Since the soil at an altitude of 1300 meters is not suitable for intensive agricultural use, it is mainly young cattle. The pasture cooperative provides a so-called herder who runs the Herderhütte. In the past he was assisted by a shepherd who was responsible for the cattle. Today the Herder takes over the management of the Erlenbacher Hütte and the care of the animals. Thanks to well-developed roads and its own electricity connection, the Erlenbacher Hütte can now be inhabited by Herder and his family all year round . The name Erlenbach could refer to an alder population, but it could also go back to a personal name such as Erlebrand or Erlebrecht.

Documents show that the Erlenbacher Weidegenossenschaft already existed around the year 1000 or 1100. However, it has not been proven whether this already used the Erlenbach as high pasture.

In the 12th century, the field name "Erlibach" as a name for a forest below the Feldberg is first documented in a sales document. The Erlenbach has been sold several times over the centuries, including around 1327 to the Wilhelmites . In 1472 the Erlenbach farm was first mentioned, which at that time consisted of a house and a stable for the herder's animals. In later deeds, the Erlenbacher Hof is pledged and sold several times, with the respective deeds often mentioning the (mostly 12 or 13) members of the Erlenbacher pasture cooperative as owners. An almost complete series of herders and landlords has been documented since the 17th century.

In 1769 a new house was built together with a cattle hut.

In the 1960s, it was planned to open up the Erlenbach for ski tourism, but this never came about.

present

The Erlenbacher Hütte was run by Pirmin Kleiser for decades. Then from his sons, and then from Andreas Stoll. From the spring of 2002 to February 2018, the Brüstle family took over the inn and the stove. The Erlenbacher Hütte is currently closed, is being renovated and will be leased to new tenants on June 1, 2018. The Herder family looks after around 120 head of cattle on the Erlenbacher pasture in summer, which covers 80 hectares at an altitude of between 1100 and 1300 m .

Driveway

The Erlenbach can be reached by car from Oberried and usually serves as a starting point for numerous hikes in the Feldberg area and is particularly suitable as access to the Alpine Path , one of the highest hiking trails in the Black Forest , through the alpine terrain of the northern slopes of Feldberg and Stübenwasen , which runs through its exposed location and its alpine character is a specialty in the Black Forest.
