The Stübenwasen is 1388.8 m above sea level. NHN the sixth highest mountain in the Black Forest , after the Feldberg ( 1493 m above sea level ), the Baldenweger Buck ( 1460.5 m above sea level ), the Seebuck ( 1449.3 m above sea level ), the Herzogenhorn ( 1415.6 m) above sea level ) and the Belchen ( 1414.2 m above sea level ). It forms the highest elevation of the ridge between Schauinsland and Feldberg and is only separated from the latter by a wide saddle. To the north is the St. Wilhelmer Valley , to the south the Wiesental with Todtnau and Todtnauberg .
Botany, usage
The Stübenwasengipfel is not forested. However, the sharp transitions to the forest show that it is not a natural tree line. However due to the amount of Stübenwasen would not be free of forest, a tree line here would be about 100 km north of the nearest North Alpine peaks approximately at a height of 1.650- 1,700 meters expected. The plateaus are used as pastures for cattle in summer and as ski areas in winter.
tourism
Accordingly, the Stübenwasen is very well developed for tourism, although it cannot be reached by car like the Feldberg or the Kandel . The Berggasthaus Stübenwasen ( 1270 m ) has stood west of the summit since 1935 . It can be reached in summer via the hiking trail between Feldberg and Notschrei and in winter via the Stübenwasenspur . There are also lifts from Todtnauberg to the Stübenwasen, the Stübenwasen lift (1000 m long, from 1100 m to 1350 m ) and the Stübenwasen summit lift (400 m long, from 1330 m to 1370 m ).
The Stübenwasen is the destination of numerous hiking tours, but many visitors only cross the summit on the way to or from the Feldberg. Behind the summit cross begins the Alpine path , one of the highest hiking trails in the Black Forest, through the alpine terrain of the northern slopes of Feldberg and Stübenwasen, which is a specialty in the Black Forest due to its exposed location and alpine character. The Westweg (10th stage of the western variant) also leads over the Stübenwasen.
