The Seebuck is a 1449.3  m above sea level. NHN high elevation of the Feldberg and is considered the second highest peak in the Black Forest . It is located in Baden-Württemberg ( Germany ).

geography

The tree-free summit of the Seebuck is located in the southern Black Forest 1.7 kilometers southeast of the Feldberg main summit (also called the highest ), both are separated by a flat depression ( Grüble or Feldbergsattel ); the notch height is only 29 m.

The steeply sloping northeast side of the Seebuck is part of the Karwand of the Feldsee basin. At their foot lies the Feldsee , through which the Seebach flows, later called Gutach and then Wutach . The cleared south-east side of the mountain is used as a winter sports area and does not belong to the surrounding Feldberg nature reserve .

tourism

Feldberg Tower

On the Seebuck is the Feldbergturm , a former radio tower that serves as a lookout tower and has housed a ham museum since 2013. In the summer months, weddings can take place in the highest wedding room in Baden-Württemberg on the 11th floor of the tower.

summer

The mountain is a popular destination for day trippers. The parking lot at the foot of the Seebuck is the starting point for numerous hikes on the nearby ridge (towards Feldberg , Stübenwasen and Notschrei , towards Toter Mann , to the Herzogenhorn or to Hinterzarten ) or in the adjacent valleys ( Menzenschwander Valley , Wiesental , St. Wilhelmer Tal , Zastler Valley ). The "rock path" leading down the steep slope from the summit area to the Feldsee is only suitable for sure-footed hikers with sturdy shoes, but offers a varied route and views of the Feldsee in the depths.

Winter sports

In addition to hiking trails, bike paths and snowshoe routes, it offers a wide range of winter sports opportunities . On the Seebuck there are various ski slopes of different levels of difficulty for beginners and advanced skiers. Five lifts make the ascent easier. In detail - as seen from the parking lot - from right to left: an older two- seater chairlift (at the edge of the forest at the northeast end of the slope), a modern six-seater chairlift with weather protection and a plate drag lift . Since winter 2005/2006, slope users have been able to use a wooden ski bridge to switch to the slopes south of the B 317 without having to take off their winter sports equipment. Another six-seater chairlift with hoods , the Zeigerbahn , has enabled a direct lift connection between Grafenmatt and Seebuck since December 2015 and replaces the Zeiger drag lift. If the snow depth is sufficient , a fun park will be set up in which snowboarders in particular can practice acrobatic jumps. The German Snowboard Championships took place there from March 17th to 19th, 2006.

In summer, the 6-seater chairlift is equipped with cabins that can accommodate 8 people. In the valley station of the cable car there are garages for snow groomers and snowmobiles , the technical equipment and sanitary facilities as well as cash registers, a ski service and a medical room for the Black Forest mountain rescue service . Below the old television tower , the Freiburg mountain rescue service maintains the Feldberg-Seebuck mountain rescue station . The highest mountain rescue station in Baden-Württemberg is manned continuously on weekends and public holidays and is responsible for the mountain rescue service on the Seebuck and in the Feldberg area.

At the foot of the Seebuck, opposite the large Feldberger Hof hotel complex , there has been the Feldberg Freestyle Circuit, a 1.7 km long trail (classic and skating , easy) , which has been located since 2006 . The connecting trail from the Feldberger Hof to the Todtnauer Hütte and the Stübenwasenspur runs through the southern flanks of the Seebuck (part of the Schonach – Belchen long-distance skiing trail , classic and skating, difficult).

On December 9, 2015, the highest car park in Germany at 1300 meters with 1200 spaces was inaugurated at the foot of the Seebuck. The construction was controversial; in 2006, the population of the community of Feldberg voted for it in a referendum. Almost half a million euros were invested in snow-making systems in 2010, and in autumn 2014 the Feldberg municipal council also placed an order for terrain modeling measures for EUR 125,000 to remove furrows, dents and edges from old cross paths, water pipes and damp spots on the Seebuck caused by old drainage and to make it easier to make snow and prepare the slopes in the future.

Bismarck monument on the Seebuck

In the summit area of the Seebuck on the edge of the Feldseekessel there is a Bismarck monument made of quarry stone with a portrait medallion, which was created between 1895 and 1896 by Fridolin Dietsche . The relief was cast by Wilhelm Pelargus in Stuttgart, the first sketch came from Karlsruhe Professor Karl Gagel (1861–1916). For the inauguration on October 4, 1896, the committee for the erection of the monument to Otto von Bismarck sent a telegram. His answer was printed in the Freiburg newspaper :

"I am very grateful for the great honor that has been paid to me with the erection of the monument on the Feldberge and I have vivid memories of the Black Forest from previous visits to the beautiful Baden region."

- Otto von Bismarck

The celebrations themselves were celebrated with a gala banquet the evening before and an official gala dinner on the day of the opening. In order to counter the rush of guests, a special train ran on the Höllentalbahn from Freiburg to Titisee.

The monument was renovated from September 2009 after it had last been done eleven years earlier.

On the edge of the large parking lot at the foot of the Seebuck (at Feldberger Hof), a nature conservation center for the southern Black Forest was built, the House of Nature . A little below it is the highest church in Germany above the main road: the Catholic parish church of the Transfiguration of Christ .
