Ermida Dom Bosco

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ermida Dom Bosco is a chapel located in Quadra QI 29 on Lago Sul in Brasília . It is dedicated to the patron saint of the city, Don Giovanni Melchiorre Bosco ( Portuguese Dom João Belchior Bosco ).

Building history

The monument is based on a design by Oscar Niemeyer , the planner of Brasilia himself. It was erected in 1957. In a prophecy on August 30, 1883, Don Bosco spoke of a "promised land in which milk and honey will flow" as the source of a new civilization, and also mentioned coordinates "between parallels 15 and 20". The founders of the new capital of Brazil referred to this, and this chapel and the Santuário Dom Bosco from 1963 honor the city's saint.

description

The building is a formally strict, pointed pyramid with a cross, which stands on a round, raised platform. It is provided with a reflective surface. The structure is elevated on a hill and offers a wide view of Lake Sul and the south of Brasília.
