The Santuário Dom Bosco is a single-nave church located in Quadra 702 Sul in Brasília , which is dedicated to the patron saint of the city Johannes Bosco ( Portuguese João Bosco ).

Building history

The church was built in 1963 based on a design by Carlos Alberto Naves . Landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx designed the open space for the associated green areas .

description

The floor area is around 1,600 m², 80 concrete pillars with Gothic arches and a height of 16 meters carry the nave. The effective lighting is achieved through the use of 12 different shades of glass (blue to purple) , which are supposed to symbolize the clear starry sky. A special eye-catcher is a crystal chandelier made of 7,400 individual parts made of Murano glass, which is about three meters high, suspended from steel cables .

The eight meter high crucifix was designed by Gotfredo Thaler ; the bronze doors with scenes from the life of Don Bosco are by Siron Franco .
