Gotfredo Thaler
Gotfredo (Gottfried) Thaler (born February 1, 1940 ; † November 14, 2012 in Dreizehnlinden ) was a Brazilian carver .
Thaler learned the carving trade from his father, who also actively supported him. Already in his school days he began to carve heads of Christ from araucarias - the anchoring of the branches in the trunk of the araucarias . In 1967 he went to Austria for further training. When he returned to Dreizehnlinden, he made life-size sculptures. In 1970 he carved his most famous work, a four-meter-high crucifix from a whole block of cedar. This work was installed in the Dom Bosco Cathedral in Brasilia, on the occasion of the "National Church Congress", and can be viewed there.
