Ernest Millington

Ernest Rogers Millington DFC (born February 15, 1916 in Ilford, † May 9, 2009 ) was a British politician.

In April 1945, the former Royal Air Force pilot Millington was elected to the House of Commons in a by- election and was a member of it from 1945 to 1950. The by-election had become necessary because the former MP John MacNamara had been shot down in Italy in December 1944 . From April to July 1945, Millington was the youngest MP in the House of Commons. Originally elected to the Common Wealth Party , he joined the Labor Party in 1946 . In 1950 he lost his seat to Hubert Aston , the Conservative Party candidate . In 1954 he rejoined the Royal Air Force, but left again after four years. Then Millington became active as a teacher.

In 1979 his first wife Gwen, with whom he was married from 1937 to 1974, died. In the early 1980s he retired and moved with his second wife to the French department of Dordogne . His first marriage had four daughters.

In 2006 he published his autobiography Was That Really Me? .
