Ernesto Nazareth
Ernesto Júlio Nazareth (born March 20, 1863 in Rio de Janeiro , † February 4, 1934 in Jacarepaguá , Rio de Janeiro) was a Brazilian composer and pianist .
Life
He was particularly known for his choros or Brazilian tangos (Tangos brasileiros) and chamber music mazurkas . Heitor Villa-Lobos called him "the true embodiment of the Brazilian soul".
Ernesto Nazareth wrote 88 tangos, 41 waltzes and 28 polkas, as well as individual compositions from other genres - a total of 212 compositions, almost all for piano.
One of his most famous pieces is the Choro Apanhei-te, Cavaquinho! ( I have you, Cavaquinho! ). It pays homage to the cavaquinho , a stringed instrument that was used in the choro orchestras of Brazil. Other well-known pieces by him are the Maxixe Odeon and the dances Brejeiro and Dengozo .
