The Ernst Abbe Medal was an award from the Chamber of Technology (KDT) of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was donated in 1965 in one step. Until 1970 the medal only had the status of a medal of honor. The medal itself could be awarded for outstanding services in the organization of the KDT. The medal is named after Ernst Abbe .

Appearance and wearing style

The gilded medal with a diameter of 35 mm shows on its obverse the portrait of Ernst Abbe's head looking to the right as seen by the observer and to the left of it on the edge of the medal the inscription in cursive cursive: A. E Abbe . The reverse of the medal, on the other hand, shows the seven-line inscription in the middle: FOR / CREATIVE / LEISTUNGEN / IN / SOCIALISTIC / COMMUNITY / WORK surrounded by the inscription: KAMMER DER TECHNIK (above) IN THE GERMAN DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC (below). The medal was worn on the upper left side of the chest on a rectangular clasp covered in white, in the middle of which the gold-plated miniature of the KDT symbol was placed.
