Ernst Gassner

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ernst Gaßner (born May 22, 1908 in Bingen ; † November 25, 1988 in Darmstadt ) was a German engineer who lived and researched in Darmstadt. He was a co-founder of the “Fraunhofer Institute for Structural Durability LBF”, today's Fraunhofer Institute for Structural Durability and System Reliability (LBF), in Darmstadt.

He laid the foundation for research in the field of fatigue strength . The Gassner line named after him is similar to the Wöhler line , but not under the assumption of constant amplitudes. After determining a typical load spectrum, a frequency distribution of the amplitudes can be determined and this can be used for the fatigue test.
