Ernst Heintze (born April 6, 1944 in Neubrandenburg ) is a German mathematician who deals with differential geometry .

From 1964, Heintze studied mathematics in Berlin, Freiburg and Bonn with a diploma in 1969 in Bonn and his doctorate in 1970 in Bonn under Wilhelm Klingenberg (curvature and topology of space SU (5) / (Sp (2) x S 1 )). He then worked as an assistant in Bonn, where he completed his habilitation in 1976. In 1973 he was a visiting scholar at the University of California, Berkeley . In 1978 he became a professor at the University of Münster and in 1985 at the University of Augsburg .

The Heintze groups are named after him.
