Ernst Aloysius Kein (born November 27, 1928 in Vienna ; † January 21, 1985 ibid) was an Austrian author and dialect poet.

Life

Ernst Kein was drafted into anti-aircraft defense towards the end of the war. After the war he studied theater studies, journalism and psychology, but dropped out shortly before finishing it.

He belonged to the circle around the youth culture magazine Neuewege . However, this dissolved in 1951. In 1954 he started dialect poetry . He was known, if not by name, for his columns that he wrote in the Kronen Zeitung under the headings “weana schbrüch”, “Herr Strudl” and “Herr Habe”.

As the greatest award, Kein received the Austrian State Prize for Literature .

In 2006 the Ernst-Kein-Gasse in Vienna- Floridsdorf (21st district) was named after him.
