Ernst Rufli

Ernst Rufli (born April 12, 1910 - † August 14, 1996 ) was a Swiss rower in one .

Rufli rowed for the Zurich rowing club , his constant rivalry with Eugen Studach from the Grasshopper Club Zurich shaped Swiss single rowing in the 1930s. Rufli was the first Swiss rower to win the Diamond Sculls in 1935 , the single race at the Henley Royal Regatta . In 1936 he was able to repeat this success. At the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936 , Rufli reached the final, but was fifth without a medal. In 1938 at the last European Championships before the Second World War, Rufli won the bronze medal behind Josef Hasenöhrl from Vienna and Roger Verey from Poland .
