Ernst von Essen (born July 2, 1912 in Dorpat / Estonia, † November 4, 1986 in Hanover ) was a German politician ( CDU ).

Von Essen attended a neo-humanist high school in his birthplace Dorpat. After graduating, he began studying agriculture and economics at various academies. After completing his studies, he worked as a farmer. He was later an independent manor owner and head of department. He was a member of the NSDAP since October 1, 1940 ( membership number 8425281). At the Second World War he took between 1943 and the war as a soldier in part and was taken prisoner. As early as January 1945, his family from Estonia was relocated to Salzgitter . After his release from captivity, he went to Salzgitter and founded the Ernst von Essen company , a spirits factory and wine wholesaler , here in 1948 .

Von Essen was chairman of the Braunschweig regional association of the Evangelical Working Group of the CDU / CSU. He was also a member of the Provost Synod in Salzgitter-Lebenstedt and a member of the draft commission at the district military replacement office in Goslar . Von Essen was appointed a member of the supervisory board of the water and energy supply company Salzgitter and chairman of the association for municipal credit in Braunschweig.

He was councilor of the city of Salzgitter since 1961, initially as a member of the SPD. During this time, he said he was involved in the choice of location for the new VW plant to be built for the production of the VW K70 on Salzgitter. After the SPD faction, which had dominated the city council for many years with an absolute majority, got entangled in various affairs (Ließ affair, Stief affair) in the early 1970s, von Essen switched to the CDU. In addition to his mandate as councilor of the city of Salzgitter, he was also a member of the Salzgitter North local council for many years, where he was temporarily also chairman of the CDU parliamentary group. In 1982 he stood as a candidate for the CDU Salzgitter in the state elections and unexpectedly won a mandate. He was not only a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament from June 21, 1982 to June 20, 1986, but was also able to chair the constituent session of the Lower Saxony state parliament for the tenth electoral period on June 22, 1982 as age president. He ran again for the 1986 state elections, but failed to be re-elected.
