The conquest of Chang'an was one of the final battles in the War of the Eight Princes .

After defeating Sima Yong's general Liu Qiao, Liu Kun advanced west with his force and captured Sima Yong's headquarters in Chang'an in June 306 . The latter barely escaped and was killed in an ambush by Sima Yue a few months later .
