Substitute satisfaction

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In psychoanalysis, substitute satisfaction is an act that increases pleasure in a substitute object. This is especially true if the actual goal cannot be reached, is "blocked" by prohibitions , taboos , etc., or is suppressed for certain reasons . Substitute satisfaction is thus one of the defense mechanisms of the ego.

Many mentally healthy people often redirect their wishes , some of them unconscious, in such a way that they find satisfaction through a substitute object.
