Eruption (from Latin eruptio , "outbreak, breakout") stands for:

  • the discharge of magma, rocks, gases or ash, the volcanic eruption
  • hydrothermal ejection of water, see geyser
  • a gas or radiation outbreak on the sun's surface, the solar flare
  • the bright glow of a massive star at the end of its life through an explosion, a supernova
  • the bright glow from the explosive ignition of the hydrogen burn on the surface of a white dwarf, a nova
  • the bright glow in the accretion disk around a white dwarf, a dwarf nova
  • uncontrolled leakage of drilling fluid, crude oil and / or natural gas from a borehole, see blowout (deep drilling technique)
