Eruption (German band)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eruption was a performance concept initiated by Joseph Beuys' student Conrad Schnitzler between 1970 and 1972 in West Berlin . Schnitzler, who called himself an "intermedia artist", wanted to remove the boundaries between music, visual arts and performance. He chose Eruption as his name.

In addition to the musical core, which in addition to Schnitzler also included Klaus Freudigmann and Wolfgang Seidel , numerous musicians from German rock music, also known as Krautrock , played at these events, including Klaus Schulze from Tangerine Dream and Manuel Göttsching from Ash Ra Tempel , Dieter Servas from Amon Düül and Lutz Ulbrich from Agitation Free . The first eruption-Event took place in 1970 in West Berlin Prisma. Shortly afterwards, at Christmas 1970, the Peter Brötzmann Group took part in the performance in the recently opened Latin Quarter .

In retrospect, Eruption was an attempt to bring together several artistic movements of the 1960s: free jazz , fluxus and the happening .
