Erwägen Wissen Ethik (EWE) was an international and interdisciplinary scientific discussion journal that was published from 1990 to 2015 (initially until 2001 under the title Ethics and Social Sciences - Dispute Forum for Consideration Culture ). In the course of the takeover of the publishing house Lucius & Lucius by De Gruyter Oldenbourg, the magazine was discontinued. It saw itself as a forum for disputes between different schools and directions as well as a forum for inventing, testing and improving rules for a clarification-oriented, contemplative handling of different positions.

Program and design

“The magazine Erwiegen Wissen Ethik (EWE) aims to promote the consideration of diversity.” EWE booklets can contain one or more discussion units. They should take into account the variety of orientations, concepts and arguments represented in the scientific field as comprehensively as possible on the selected topics. A professionally qualified person (or team) writes a main article on the respective topic. Other experts who have dealt with the topic from different disciplines are asked and write reviews of the main article, to which the authors respond in a reply. Examples of discussions are: Evolution - Fundamental Questions and Misunderstandings , Culture and Power - A Comparative Civilizational Analysis , " About the Difficulties of Learning from Mistakes ". Instead of main articles acquired from living authors, a relevant historical text (reprotext) can also be the starting point for a discussion. Second rounds of reviews and replicas follow if there is enough space and time for this.

For the discussion units consisting of the main article, criticism and replica, there were partially synopsis of consideration in which the content and form of the written arguments were reflected. The synopsis should "try to arrange the range of diversity represented and, if necessary, discuss the difficulties that arise". In coordination with the research editorial team, reports on seminars that have worked with discussion units from EWE in a consideration-oriented manner have been published in EWE. EWE wanted to promote the clarification of diversity in education, too, and thereby help bring research and teaching together. "In order to promote clarification processes, research continuities are sought between the disputes."

What is special compared to other scientific journals is, in addition to the special form of written discussion across disciplines, that EWE was designed as a research instrument. Articles in the journal were not selected by means of a peer review process; instead, comprehensive rounds of criticism were intended to promote research processes. According to the EWE statute, the edition group did not have any influence on the content of the contributions, provided that the legal limits were maintained.

history

The journal Reconciliation Knowledge Ethics was part of the recital culture project , in which - based on a deficit in the sciences in dealing with diversity - a considerative approach to diversity is researched and promoted. The research group considering culture Paderborn were at the beginning of the project in the 1980s, Frank BENSELER to, Bettina Blanck, Rainer Werner Greshoff and Loh. "Its members made the idea of the consideration the programmatic basis for the foundation of the discussion journal" Ethik und Sozialwissenschaften "(EuS), which has been published since 1990." Reinhard Keil has also been co-editor since 1995 . In the 1990s, an expanded interdisciplinary group was formed in which the concept of a consideration orientation in research, teaching and practice was discussed and further developed.
