Simon Atallah

Simon Atallah OAM (born January 10, 1937 in Hemayri ) is a Lebanese clergyman and Maronite Bishop emeritus of Baalbek-Deir El-Ahmar .

Life

Simon Atallah joined the Order of the Maronite Antonians and was ordained a priest on December 8, 1963 . In 1999 the Chapter elected him Superior General of the Maronite Antonians. The Synod of the Maronite Church elected him on September 24, 2005 as Bishop of Baalbek-Deir El-Ahmar . Pope Benedict XVI confirmed this election on December 28, 2005.

The Maronite Patriarch of Antioch and the whole Orient, Nasrallah Pierre Cardinal Sfeir , donated him the episcopal ordination on February 11 of the following year; Co-consecrators were Roland Aboujaoudé , auxiliary bishop in Antioch , and Tanios El Khoury , former bishop of Sidon .

He held office until 2015. The Synod of the Maronite Bishops, which met from March 10-14 , 2015, elected Hanna Rahmé OLM as his successor. Pope Francis approved the election on June 20, 2015.
