List of apple varieties |
Erwin Baur is a variety of the apple ( Malus domestica ). It was made at the Institute for Arable and Plant Production in Müncheberg from a seedling of the variety ' Privy Councilor Dr. Oldenburg '. The variety was named after the German doctor, botanist, geneticist and breeding researcher Erwin Baur .
description
The initially strong and later medium-strong tree forms upright leading branches with little branching. The crown has a broad spherical shape. The variety is slightly susceptible to powdery mildew and highly resistant to scab .
The dense inflorescences develop only on short shoots that are on one- and two-year long shoots. The flowers are sensitive to frost.
The medium-sized to large fruit is 68 mm wide and 57 mm high and weighs 105 grams. The smooth, dry and later sticky, medium-firm shell is colored green-yellow and has short red-brown stripes. The whitish-yellow pulp is medium-firm, medium-fine-celled, juicy, sweet and sour and, depending on the location, from noble aromatic to bland. It is ripe for picking from the beginning to mid-October. It is ready for consumption from December to March. The apple can be stored until March.
There is a red-skinned mutant of the variety called 'Roba'. It differs in its almost completely red and less sticky shell. In addition, the aroma is improved.
