View of the fruit

Privy Councilor Dr. Oldenburg is an apple variety that was bred in 1897 at what was then the higher education institution for fruit growing in Geisenheim . It is a cross between the varieties Minister von Hammerstein and Baumanns Renette . Synonyms are Privy Councilor Oldenburg and Oldenburg .

The first apples were harvested in 1904 and in honor of Privy Councilor Dr. Oldenburg, speaking council in the then agricultural ministry in Berlin.

tree

The tree needs good soil and fertilization and forms a medium-sized, light crown there. It is true that the yield starts very early and is still fairly abundant even on poorer soils, but the tree shows insufficient growth and a greater sensitivity to fruit tree cancer . A sheltered location is also advantageous because of the low storm resistance of the fruit; using it as a hedge does not make sense.

Fruit and use

The apples of the privy councilor Dr. Oldenburg are medium-sized, tall table fruits with a yellow-green skin, on the sunny side sometimes bright red. The flesh is fluffy and juicy. The taste is fine, sweet and sour. The harvest maturity begins in September, while the consumption maturity goes from October through December. The apple variety is rarely grown commercially.

The taste quality of the apples is considered "modest" "even in good locations". Meanwhile, the apple variety can be found in many garden enthusiasts "because of its unique, almost exotic taste".
