Erwin Degen

Erwin Degen (born August 17, 1933 in Bottrop ; † February 25, 2012 ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

Erwin Degen was born on August 17, 1933 in Bottrop . After the end of the war, he began training as a machinist at the Prosper-Haniel mine in Bottrop. During his time at the Prosper-Haniel mine, he was involved in the works union group and in what was then IG Bergbau und Energie . From 1961 to 1985 he was active on the works council, four years of which (1981 to 1985) as the works council chairman. Erwin Degen was also involved in the workers 'welfare and tenants' association. Erwin Degen was married and has two sons. He died on February 25, 2012.

Political career

In addition to his work on the works council of IG Bergbau und Energie , Erwin Degen was active in the local politics of the city of Bottrop for the SPD since 1962. In 1969 he was elected to the city council of Bottrop. In 1972 the city council elects him to the mayor's office . Erwin Degen held the mayor's office for almost 30 years (1972 to 1990) until he finally resigned in 1990. Nevertheless, he remained active as a councilor until 2004.

Awards

For his services, Erwin Degen received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany on ribbon in 1986, the Order of Merit of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and the city plaque of the city of Bottrop in 1999 .
