Life

He completed his education studies at the universities in Lauenburg , Posen and Munich . After the Second World War, he began his academic career in 1952 at the University of Education in Oldenburg as an educational assistant, where he was later appointed as a university professor. He turned against the popular education that was prevalent at the time and campaigned for the independence of the elementary school , which at that time was still the lower level of the elementary school . In 1966 he was offered the professorship for elementary school education at the University of Education at the University of Frankfurt .

He became known nationwide as the initiator of the first German primary school congress in 1969 in Frankfurt aM. There, social justice in the education system was discussed and the possibilities of promoting talent for all children were emphasized. His active attitude towards the reform of the primary school resulted in various initiatives. He became the initiator and editor of the primary school magazine , which he developed from an insert of Westermann's educational articles . In articles he repeatedly emphasized the need to improve the training of primary school teachers and to create a good learning environment for children. In 1968/69 he initiated and founded the primary school working group , which in 1991 became a primary school association with 16 regional groups. The Working Group Primary School gave the series under the direction of Erwin Schwartz numerous volumes contributions to the reform of primary school out. Including volumes on the lively design of classrooms and the integration of learning locations outside the classroom in primary school lessons.
