Erynnis marloyi is a butterfly from the family of Skipper (Hesperiidae).

features

The fore wing length is 14 to 15 millimeters. The top is dark brown with indistinct white points on the edge. On the forewings there is a narrow black-brown subbasal band and an oblique, dark, somewhat gray-dusted post disk band. Pointed spots can be seen in front of apex two and three. The hind wings are dark brown and not marked. The underside is solid brown with white dots on the forewings as on the upper side. The female is slightly larger and lighter. The male has no Kostal envelope.

Geographical occurrence and habitat

Erynnis marloyi is distributed from the south of the Balkan Peninsula ( Bulgaria , Albania , Macedonia , Greece , European part of Turkey) through Asia Minor , Lebanon , Syria , Israel , Iraq , northern Iran , Afghanistan and in Transcaucasia. It lives on dry slopes, in ravines on carbonate rock. It can be found in mountains from 600 to 2000 meters and above.

Way of life

The moths fly from mid-May to late June. The females suckle on thyme ( thymus ). The moths are extremely shy and very easy to disturb. The caterpillars feed on Rosaceae.
