Construction of the Imago

The male holotype of the species has a length of 33 millimeters, of which 21 millimeters are on the abdomen . The female holotype here measures 34 millimeters or 23 millimeters. The abdomen of the two specimens were both 3 millimeters wide in the middle. The wingspan is about 26 millimeters for males and 28 millimeters for females. Naming

The species was first described as Libellula plebeia in 1842 by Rambur using a female animal from Chile. But it wasn't until Brauer's description in 1865 based on two animals from Chile, which were collected during the "world voyage of the imperial frigate Novara ", that the animal was given the name Libellula (Diplax) corallina . The genus name Erythrodiplax was given to the species when Brauer used this species as a generotype for the genus in 1868 . Förster created another synonym in 1914 with Erythrodiplax nutrina .
