Friedrich Moritz Brauer

Friedrich Moritz Brauer (born May 12, 1832 in Vienna , † December 29, 1904 in Vienna) was an Austrian physician and entomologist .

He was one of the founders of the renowned zoological-botanical association in Vienna in 1851. From 1876 he was custodian for two-winged (Diptera) and net-winged (Neuroptera, including the dragonflies or Odonata, which at that time still belonged to this group) at the entomological collection Natural History Museum in Vienna , whose director he was from 1898 until his death. From 1884 he was a full professor at the University of Vienna . Between 1850 and 1901 he wrote 189 publications, v. a. about Neuroptera (e.g. the "Neuroptera austriaca" 1857), Mecoptera (mud flies), Diptera and the phylogeny and systematics of insects.
