Eryx (mythology)

Eryx ( ancient Greek Ἔρυξ ) is in Greek mythology the son of the goddess of love Aphrodite and the Argonaut Butes or the sea god Poseidon . He is the eponymous namesake of Mount Erice , on which the sanctuary of Aphrodite Erykine was located.

Eryx, who lived and in western Sicily, large parts of this island dominated, one day tried to steal a stray cow, which the herds of triple-bodied giant Geryon was one, now of Heracles for Eurystheus had been fought and the Mycenaean king brought were. When Heracles saw what Eryx was doing, the famous pugilist invited him to a wrestling match and strangled him in this.
