The Archangel Michael Church is a wooden church in Dębno Podhalańskie in the province Lesser Poland (ul. Koscielna 42). The building was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2003. The church is located on the so-called wooden architecture route from Małopolska (Lesser Poland).
history
The foundation of the church is related to the activities of the Cistercian order in Ludźmierz ; the first written mention of a church building comes from the year 1335. The current church was built in 1490, the steeple was added in 1601 according to the inscription on the lintel. The presbytery of the church faces east.
Furnishing
The church is made of fir and larch wood. The individual parts were connected to one another by comb connections, i.e. H. the wood lying on different levels was connected with comb-like folds. Iron nails were not used.
Inside the church there are polychrome paintings from the 15th and 16th centuries with geometric and floral patterns, which cover all ceilings and walls (apart from individual wall sections of the nave), also the choir railings, pulpit and benches. It was possible to distinguish 77 patterns, which appear in 12 arrangements and 33 color variants. There are also Gothic architectural elements (arches, points, tracery ). There are also consecration crosses on the walls.
In the church there is a late Gothic triptych from the early 16th century, a cross is from 1380, the tabernacle is from the early 14th century, and there is also a xylophone from the 15th century in the church .
