The Erzgebirgsschanze is a no longer used ski jumping hill in Johanngeorgenstadt in the Schwefelbachtal in the forest area Römisch Reich in the Saxon Erzgebirge .

history

After the ski jumping hill, built in 1929 under the name of Hans-Heinz-Schanze and renamed Glückaufschanze in 1951/52, collapsed in March 1956, a new hill with Lotto-Totto funds was built at the same place, but with a shortened run-up from August 1960 built. For better durability, the building material used was not wood, as was the case with the previous building, but reinforced concrete. The solemn consecration took place on January 1, 1962. The hill record holder of the previous hill, Herbert Queck , carried out the consecration jump .

However, the new Erzgebirgsschanze fell short of the high expectations of a modern ski jumping facility with a large jump distance and was therefore mainly used for ski jumping by Nordic combined and young athletes (children and young people). In the summer months of the 1960s, the tower could be climbed and used for viewing purposes. A ski jumping hill was built on the inrun tower , which also had a gastronomic offer in summer.

On January 4, 1969, an ice rink was inaugurated near the Erzgebirgsschanze. In the immediate vicinity, the Kleine Pionierschanze was inaugurated on October 7, 1970.

A modern pioneer jump was built next to the Erzgebirgsschanze and was inaugurated on December 26, 1977. Now, ski jumping runs by children and young people took place mainly on this hill and the Erzgebirgsschanze was only rarely used.

Structural changes were made in the mid-1990s. On December 23, 1995, the redesigned Erzgebirgsschanze was consecrated, combined with a Christmas ski jump. Nevertheless, current profile and safety requirements could not be adequately met through the modifications. As a result, the Erzgebirgsschanze has not been used since the end of 2000 and is now in ruins. Demolition is too expensive due to the reinforced concrete used.
