After Kühren won gold in the individual jumping at the GDR championships in 1960 in front of Harald Pfeffer and Günter Oettel , he made his first international start at the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley at the age of only 19 . When jumping from the normal hill, he achieved a surprisingly good 12th place.

In winter, Kühr started for the first time in the Four Hills Tournament 1960/61 . Already at the opening competition in Oberstdorf he landed seventh place on the best individual rank on a tour. A few days later he started in the New Year's competition on the Great Olympic Hill in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . After a 16th place there, he jumped to 42nd place on the Bergiselschanze in Innsbruck . After finishing 18th in Bischofshofen , he finished the tour in 49th place overall.

After he did not take part in the tour in the following season, he started at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Zakopane in 1962 . He achieved sixth place in the individual competition on the normal hill. From the large hill, Kühr jumped to 12th place.

In the 1962/63 Four Hills Tournament , Kürth only started in Innsbruck. After a 37th place, he finally finished 72nd in the overall ranking. For more than three years, Keuert did not jump at international level. In 1964 he won gold again at the GDR championships. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in 1966 , he started again on an international level. He landed fifth on the normal hill and ninth on the large hill.

After his World Cup success, he started his last Four Hills Tournament in 1966/67 in December . For the second time after 1960/61 he jumped in all four competitions and achieved his best individual result on the tour with 13th place. In the overall ranking he reached 33rd place after all competitions. At the GDR championships in 1967, Kühren started in team jumping and won silver with the team. A year later he won the gold medal together with Horst Queck , Peter Lesser and Heinz Schmidt .
