Heinz Schmidt (* 1948 in Neustadt am Rennsteig ) is a former German ski jumper .

Career

Schmidt, born in Neustadt, was discovered by Hans Renner in autumn 1965 . Schmidt, who started for SC Motor Zella-Mehlis , made his international debut at the Four Hills Tournament in 1966/67 . Already in the opening competition in Oberstdorf he landed on a good 25th place. In Innsbruck he also achieved a good top 30 place with 22nd place. In the overall ranking he reached 26th place after all four competitions.

At the GDR ski championships in 1967 he won the silver medal with the team. In the following Four Hills Tournament in 1967/68 he could not build on the previous year. Despite being tenth in Innsbruck, Schmidt only reached 34th place in the overall ranking. At the GDR ski championships in 1968 he was able to win his first GDR championship title with the team together with Horst Queck , Peter Lesser and Veit Kühren .

With the Four Hills Tournament 1968/69 Schmidt denied his best tour of the career. In the opening competition on the Schattenbergschanze in Oberstdorf, he ended up just behind the podium with fourth place and thus also achieved the best individual result on the tour in the course of his career. At the New Year's event in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , he landed on the Bergiselschanze in fifth place. After another top 10 result in Innsbruck, he only landed 30th on the Paul-Ausserleitner-Schanze in Bischofshofen . In the overall ranking he reached seventh place with 830.8 points.

At the GDR Ski Championships in 1969 , he repeated the title with the team. He also won the silver medal on the large hill behind Rainer Schmidt . At the Four Hills Tournament 1969/70 he could not quite build on the previous year. Although he achieved his highest number of points on the tour with 860 points, it was only ninth in the overall ranking.

At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1970 in Štrbské Pleso he landed 24th from the large hill with jumps on 82.5 and 104 meters. He did not start on the normal hill. At the GDR ski championships in 1970 he won gold again with the team and the bronze medal on the normal hill.

Schmidt played his last major tournament with the Four Hills Tournament in 1971/72 . However, ninth place in the opening competition in Innsbruck was his best individual result. In the overall ranking he only reached 22nd place.
