Herbert Queck

Herbert Queck (born April 9, 1925 ; † February 25, 2011 ) was a German ski jumper and lecturer at the German University of Physical Culture .

Queck came from Johanngeorgenstadt in the Saxon Ore Mountains , where he achieved his first successes on the Hans-Heinz-Schanze . From February 11th to 15th, 1949 he took part in the 1st winter sports championships of the Soviet occupation zone in Oberhof in 1949 and jumped from the Thuringian hill , where he finished 5th. In 1952 he was second in the GDR championship as a member of the core team of the DSLV.

In 1953 he set the hill record on the Glück-Auf-Schanze with 80 m , which was never broken. After ending his active career, he was u. a. Lecturer at the German University for Physical Culture and from 1959 to 1984 as "winter sports comrade" chairman of the ski section of SG Dynamo Johanngeorgenstadt . In these functions he made lasting contributions to the promotion of young athletes in ski jumping. He was one of the co-authors of the 2008 anniversary publication 100 Years WSV 08 Johanngeorgenstadt.

On January 1st, 1962 he performed the consecration jump on the new Erzgebirgsschanze .

In 2009 he and Dietrich Hanitzsch designed an exhibition on the history of WSV 08 Johanngeorgenstadt in Burglengenfeld, Bavaria .
