Erzsébet Házy
Erzsébet Házy (born October 1, 1929 in Pressburg ; † November 24, 1982 in Budapest , Hungary ) was a Hungarian opera singer ( soprano ).
Life
She received her vocal training at the National Conservatory of Budapest with Géza László. Before joining the Hungarian State Opera in 1951 , she sang in the radio choir of Magyar Rádió . Her first role at the State Opera was the page Oscar in Un Ballo in maschera by Giuseppe Verdi.
On the opera stage, she sang a variety of coloratura and lyrical roles in operas by Mozart, Puccini, Donizetti, Debussy, Tchaikovsky, Verdi, Wagner and R. Strauss, including Cherubino in Figaro's wedding , Norina in Don Pasquale , the pages Oscar in Verdi's Ballo in maschera , Mimi in La Bohème and Lisa in Queen of Spades .
Awards
- In 1963 she received the Liszt Prize ,
- 1970 the Kossuth Prize .
- In 1968 she was named an Honored Artist.
- In 2015, Házy Erzsébet sétány street in Budapest's IV district was named after her.
