Karl Steinberg

Karl "Charlie" Steinberg (born April 15, 1952 in Coesfeld , North Rhine-Westphalia ) is co-founder of digitalmusician.net . Together with Manfred Rürup , he founded Steinberg Research in 1983 and helped popularize digital audio processing through the Cubase program . Steinberg is also a founding member of the Charity Fun and Mercy. He lives in Hamburg with his wife and two children.

Musician

Karl Steinberg studied guitar and singing at the Münster Conservatory . As a guitarist and bassist, he was a member of various bands from 1966.

In 1978, in addition to Steinberg (bass), Freddy Homann (guitar and vocals) and Hölmlölm Vieth (guitar) from the band Wotan, the musicians Martin Stier (vocals), Walter Stoever (bass) and Olaf Schräder (drums) founded the band Törner Stier Crew . Steinberg becomes the new band's keyboardist. In 1979 this won the 1st prize of the German Phono Academy , the forerunner of the Echo music prize . 1980 followed an appearance in the WDR Rockpalast and many live appearances. The Törner Stier Crew released a total of three studio albums by 1983.

An English-language solo album by Steinberg, recorded in the mid-eighties, remains unreleased.

Since 2007 Karl Steinberg has been playing keyboarder with two other members of the Törner Stier Crew in the rock quintet Stier . After various live performances, the first EP produced by Siggi Bemm was released in 2009 .

Sound engineer

As a sound engineer and co-producer, Karl Steinberg mixed the albums of various bands of the Neue Deutsche Welle .

In 1984 Steinberg recorded Inga Rumpf's LP Liebe in the Brunwey Studio . Suffer. Life. on. The collaboration with Mau Mau , Manfred Rürup , Modern and Udo Dahmen also fell during this period . In 1982 Steinberg worked in Studio Maschen with Miss Menke , in Loft Studios Brunwey with Achim Reichel and Boyzone .

Software developer

The first product of Steinberg Research GmbH came in 1983 with multitrack recorder for the Commodore C64 one of the first available MIDI - sequencer on the market. The MIDI protocol was presented to the public in the same year. The MIDI interfaces sold with the Multitrack Recorder were initially soldered by the user. After Pro 16 for the C-64 and Pro 24 for the Atari ST , the audio software Cubase appeared in 1989 . In 1996 Steinberg brought out Virtual Studio Technology (VST). VST is the most widely used interface in audio today.

The Steinberg Media Technologies GmbH is since 2004 owned by the Yamaha Corporation .

With the digital musician recorder from digitalmusician.net, Karl Steinberg and Manfred Rürup have developed a free audio recorder that allows polyphonic music to be recorded in real time via an internet connection.
