1980s

In May 1980 she recorded her first single Wie Du Bist , which was based on the then current disco sound .

Two years later her breakthrough came when she wrote her own titles as Miss Menke back in Hamburg with her producer Harry Gutowski . In May 1982 Polydor released the single Hohe Berge . In keeping with the song, a dirndl trimmed for New Wave became her trademark during her performances . With this song, Miss Menke reached the top 10 of the German single charts and was one of the first Neue Deutsche Welle artists to be invited to the ZDF hit parade .

The follow-up single Traumboy also hit the German charts and Miss Menke was invited back to the ZDF hit parade . During rehearsals there were heated discussions about Menke's outfit. She had a wedding dress with a matching veil made for the performance. The supervisors of the hit parade were outraged by this outfit (after all, it was a family show in which the institution of marriage could not be denigrated) and instructed the singer to perform without a veil. During the live broadcast, however, Miss Menke took out the veil she had hidden in the tulle dress and put it on. The gesture with which she conjured a letter out of her cleavage during the line "I put perfumed letters under your door" was also disapproved.

In 1982, Miss Menke was voted one of the ten most popular singers of the year by the readers of Bravo magazine .

In 1983 the single Tretboot in Seenot was released , again by the Menke / Gutowski team. It reached number 24 in the German charts. With the ebb of the Neue Deutsche Welle, the success of Miss Menke also declined. Two other singles from 1983 and 1984 missed the charts.

At the end of the 1980s and the beginning of the 1990s, she earned her living mainly by composing advertising music, including for Berentzen (“Come to us, come up on the country ...” to the melody of Gaudeamus igitur ).

1990s

1991 of appeared Masterboy produced remix of her first hits. The following year, Franziska Menke attempted a comeback with the album I will's dangerous (again produced by Harry Gutowski) , which resulted in a smaller radio hit, I'm not getting any rolls . In 1998 her debut album was released on CD under the name Hohe Berge , along with bonus tracks, maxi versions and all B-sides , including the Fürstenhochzeit im Exil written by Joachim Witt .

After the political change , there was great interest in the artists of the Neue Deutsche Welle in the new federal states , so that Menke often appeared at revival concerts with Geier Sturzflug , Markus , Peter Schilling and Joachim Witt .

From the 1990s on, Franziska Menke wrote not only her own songs, but also often for other artists, such as Mary Roos , Truck Stop or Domenica .

2000s

From the year 2000 Menke played several times in theater productions. First she went on tour in Germany in 2000 with the play Let's Twist . In 2004 she appeared in Richy's dream at the Delphi Showpalast in Hamburg . From April 2005 to April 2006 she played the leading female role in the play Sternenhimmel alongside ex- trio drummer Peter Behrens .

In July 2005 Miss Menke released a new album, Immaculate, which she released on the indie label of her old NDW colleague Harry Gutowski and which was also marketed on her website, among other things.

2010s

RTL named her one of the 40 most successful singers in Germany on the chart show .

In July 2016, a song was released with her and with the rap group Mahonie Records called Das Leben ist ein Ponyhof , whose video on YouTube reached almost half a million clicks within a few days as part of a rap contest.

In January 2017, she participated in Season 11 of I'm a Star - Get Me Out of Here! and was the first to leave the camp. The Bildzeitung therefore named her one of the season's winners, as she thus had "maximum profit with minimal effort". She was able to keep the full fee and "enjoy a relaxed luxury life in the hotel at RTL's expense".
