Pedal boat in distress is assigned to the Neue Deutsche Welle and comes from Miss Menke's first album. The song reached number 24 in the German charts and was Miss Menke's last commercial success. The song is about a couple who get into distress in a pedal boat . The song was published as a single version (3:08) and as a maxi single version (4:47) by Polydor , on whose B-side the title Day of the Lord was pressed. The successful title also appeared on numerous compilations . Miss Menke appeared with the song on April 25, 1983 in the ZDF hit parade , but could not place in the top three.

The song title has since found frequent uses in advertising copy and newspaper articles outside the music industry.
