from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Escola Preparatória Patrice Lumumba ( EPLP , English: Patrice Lumumba Preparatory School ) is a lyceum (secondary school) in the southwest of the city center of São Tomé in the island state of São Tomé and Príncipe . It is the oldest secondary school in the country, founded in 1952. In 2015 it had around 3,000 students.

The one-story building of the former Colégio-Liceu was designed by Lucínio Cruz . In 1959 the school was renamed Liceu Nacional D. João II after King John II of Portugal .

After independence in 1975, the school became a preparatory school and the Liceu Nacional was moved to the building of the former Escola Técnica Silva e Cunha . In 1988 numerous reforms were carried out in the education system in São Tomé and in this context the school was renamed after the Congolese politician Patrice Lumumba .
