In the 1997 elections, Ian Taylor , who represented the predecessor constituency Esher, won the seat. This held office until the 2010 general election .

Since then, Dominic Raab , who is Foreign Minister under Prime Minister Boris Johnson , has represented the constituency in the House of Commons.

In April 2013 the constituency had an unemployment rate of only 1.3%. This value was significantly lower than the national average of 3.8%.

General election 2019

Former constituency representative Ian Taylor recommended voting the Liberal Democrats candidate for Monica Harding, not for his party colleague Dominic Raab in the 2019 general election. As a reason he gave the European policy course of the Tories under Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
